Permanent twisted pair cabling also known as vertical or horizontal cabling is used above ceilings and in cable ducts and connects to the wall outlet at the work space. From the outlet patchcables are used to connect to the notebook, docking station or pc.

Permanent cabling contains more copper then patchcables / patchcords and because of this is excellent for bridging longer distances.
